A Message from The President
Dear Alumni Brothers & Friends,
Just a brief update on the current status here at the Alumni Association. Although many of our fund-raising events have been canceled or temporarily postponed this year because of the current crisis facing us, we were recently able to hold two of our outside events, the “Dogs for a Cause” Softball Tournament hosted by the Legacy Foundation Committee, honoring their fellow classmate, Todd Manga ’89, and our annual “Bulldog Scramble” Golf Tournament. Both of these events support the Alumni’s Scholarship Fund. Many thanks to both of these committees for successfully and safely hosting these two events.
Currently, we are putting together plans to move ahead with our Varsity Club II programs. This is our annual Thanksgiving Turkey and Food Drive scheduled for November 18th and 19th and our Christmas Toy and Clothing Drive on the 9th and 10th of December. If you are looking for a way to help those less fortunate who are impacted, physically and financially, by the current situation, here is your opportunity to do so.
If you cannot actively participate by dropping off a turkey or food item, or a toy or clothing item, a $30. contribution to the Varsity Club ($15. Turkey Drive – $15. Toy Drive) would be greatly appreciated so that we can purchase those items for you. Send your check to The Doghouse, payable to the “St. James Alumni Association,” and note Varsity Club in the memo section.
The level of philanthropic support for these two programs, and that of our organization on a whole over the years, has been outstanding-especially our support for Catholic education and our scholarship recipients currently attending local Archdiocesan High Schools. With tuition costs prohibitive for many students today, our support for these students is literally helping to change lives! Note-with the awarding of our scholarships for the current school year, our total commitment to this this program now stands at nearly 1.4 million dollars since the closing of St. James in 1993, another milestone we can all be very proud of achieving.
Until we resume normal operations here at the Alumni Association, I promise to do my best to keep you updated and informed as we navigate through these uncertain times.
In closing, as always, thank you for your loyalty, commitment and generosity to the St. James Alumni Association and your efforts to grow this organization and perpetuate its legacy. Please stay safe and continue to pray for a quick resolve to this pandemic, especially for all those impacted by it.
